Step By Step Guide To Installing Magic Jack
Magic Jack is a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) phone service that allows you to make free local and long distance calls for just a few dollars a month. The service is extremely easy to install, once you have it up, and running, it will continue to function just like a normal phone service. Installing Magic Jack works best on a Windows based computer, but it is possible to install the software on a Mac based computer with a little bit of technological know how. These instructions are for Windows users.
When you receive the Magic Jack package, you will have the USB receiver, an extension cord, and a phone cord. Plug the device into the USB port on your computer and it will begin to download all of the required updates for the service automatically. During this update and installation process, you will be asked which area code you would like to use for your service. You should choose the closest available area code to your physical location. The service will also ask for your physical address, which is gathered for using 911 services on the phone. If Magic Jack is your primary phone, you should always be sure this address is up to date should you ever need to call 911.
Once the device is installed on your computer and you have chosen a number, the soft phone that appears on the screen can be used to make and receive calls just as a real phone. You can plug in a phone into the device to use it as you normally would if you do not prefer the software version of the phone. I cannot get my new magic Jack to work. when I plug it into the usb port. The usb square turns blue but, it just sets there and does nothing. I have unplugged it and re-tryed but nothing changes. I also told my computer to add new hardware but it don’t see it. It says to reconnect and if that don’t work replace the device.
Can you help me get it going? I have tried everything I think I should do. should I return it and see if I can get another one that works correctly. Thank You

You do not need a dial tone on magic jack. If nothing happens when you plug in magic jack you might want to try to go to “my computer” then look for removable drives. One of them should be your magic jack(it may be called tigerjet)open from there .Hope this helps someone

BEWARE – What kind of telephone service company does not even have a telephone number to speak to customer service? The only help you can get from Magic Jack is live chat on a computer.
This company advertises that you can use the Plus product without a computer, yet you need a computer to activate (register,) and to receive emails from Magic Jack about the status of the account. Porting your same number has been a pain too. They don’t tell you in their advertisment or intructions that to keep your same number you have to $20.95.
After I install it they emailed me and stated the transfer was canceled due to DSL and phone number being on the same account. They stated, I must contact my current phone company and separate the phone number to another account before they can port the number, then go back to your magic jack account and request the transfer again.
Its NOT easy or quick to setup this product and get the service working. They should have a phone number where the customer can speak to someone. Most people would just return the product to the store for a refund by this point, but Im going waiting and see if it works or not. Im waiting for my phone number to be transfered to Magic Jack service which can take up to 10 business days.
Plan to spend many hours getting it set up and up to 10 days before you even know if it works or not.
