I'm trying to use my MJ (both calling and being called from the US) from Argentina but whomever is the recipient of the call hears so much static that it is impossible to continue the conversation.

What's weird about this issue is that for the first few weeks that I used it here, it worked perfectly. Then it started producing static at first only with calls to 1-800 numbers, then with calls to area codes other than that of my MJ number, and now in every call.

By the way, my roommate is able to use Skype with no problem on the same network...so it is not my broadband connection. Further, it is not the telephone I'm using as I've tried a half dozen different ones...all with the same result.

So my question is this: Should I trash the MJ and write off the cost as a lesson learned? Or is there a solution...or even a plausible explanation?
