Magic Jack Do Not Disturb Phone Does Not Ring
I’ve gotten a lot of questions from people saying that the phone they are using with Magic Jack Internet Phone does not ring when a call is coming in. The first thing you should check is the menu on your softphone screen to make sure that “Do Not Disturb” has not been enabled. To do this click on the Menu button on your softphone screen. A drop-down menu will then appear, with different options . Look to see if there is a check mark by the Do Not Disturb option. If there is, then click it again to make the check mark go away and then your phone should ring.
If you don’t have Do Not Disturb enabled and have tried the above, then try a different phone to see if perhaps the phone you were using won’t ring with Magic Jack. Any regular landline phone should work, you don’t need to buy a special phone. Also, make sure that your phone cord that is plugged into your MJ device is not more than six feet long.
Also, you do need to disconnect your magicJack once a month. All you have to do is unplug the device, reboot your computer and then plug the device back into the USB port on your computer. This keeps your magic jack working well. The other day I had a problem with my MJ turning off and on. It did this several times before I realized that I hadn’t done my “maintenance” by unplugging the device. I did that, and it’s been working perfectly ever since. I’m going to put a reminder for the first of every month to do this so I don’t have to stop and unplug and reboot when I need to make a phone call.
If none of the above suggestions work and your phone still does not ring when you have incoming calls, then talk to a customer care person at the Magic Jack website:

Magic Jack Customer Service Numbers
Does magicJack have any customer service phone numbers? In a word - No. As explained by Dan Borislow (the inventor of the magicJack) in his comments responding to an article on TelephonyOnline, the online chat customer service will know instantly if you have High-Speed internet and if your computer is working. This takes two questions away right off the bat so that the customer service person can get down to the business of solving your problem. Problems with your internet service and/or your computer are not magicJack’s problems! If you have a question or problem with your magicJack service not working properly, the chat can help you.
Before contacting customer service chat, look through the magicJack Knowledge Base/FAQ pages. Most of the time, you’ll be able to find the solution to your problem there. If not, then go the their customer service page for help.
If you want to return your Magic Jack, you must have an RMA number and include your proof of purchase and the MJ in its original packaging. Don’t just pop it in an envelope and send it back to magicJack, it will be returned to you. To fill out the form to request an RMA number, click here.
Take a few minutes to read through the Magic Jack official web site, you’ll have a much better experience with your MJ. Go there and read through it now if you have any questions about how it works or if you have any problems…you should find it there fairly quickly if you take the time to look.
More and more companies are going to online customer service…the Magic Jack Internet Phone is certainly not alone in this. How many companies have you called on the phone and been satisfied with their customer service? They are few and far between, aren’t they?

What Is Magic Jack?
Magic Jack Internet Phone is a revolutionary newcomer to VOIP (voice over internet protocol) technology. Popularity has grown for internet voice telephone calls in the past few years as the cost is significantly cheaper than the traditional phone companies. Magic Jack is already blowing the other voip companies such as Vonage and Skype out of the water with their cheap flat-rate $19.95/year for unlimited local and long distance calling. Magic Jack customers don’t have to be technological geniuses to use this simple device. Simply plug the Magic Jack USB device into a USB port on your computer. Set up only takes a couple of minutes and you’re on your way to free calling. Any regular land-line type phone can be used to make calls. You may also use a headset, or even your computer’s built-in microphone and speakers.
With Magic Jack, you can make a phone call to any phone in the United States or Canada: landline phones, cell phones, computer phones. You will be able to receive calls from any of these phones also. You pay one license fee per year (currently at $19.95) and this enables you to call all you want. If you want to talk to Aunt Mary for 3 days on the telephone, go right ahead…there are no limitations to the length or frequency of calls.
The requirements for being able to use a Magic Jack are:
- Having a high-speed internet connection such as broadband, cable internet, DSL, wireless, Wi-Fi, WiMax or FIOS. Magic Jack is not recommended for use with satellite internet.
- Microsoft Windows XP or Vista, Apple/Mac with Intel.
Your computer does have to be on for you to make or receive calls with Magic Jack. If your computer is off and someone tries to call you, that call will be forwarded to your voice mail so that person can leave a message for you.
