Setting Up Voice Mail

Voice mail is one of the added features of Magic Jack.  It is very easy to set up and only takes a few minutes.  You need to install and register this program service first.  Then, dial your new number or click the “VMail” button on the softphone screen.  When it answers and you hear a computer generated message then click the star (*) button on your phone or screen. Wait until asked for your password and then dial in 1-2-3-4.   By dialing the “0″ button you can change your password and be able to personalize your voice mail settings.  It is very important that you change your password right away so that others cannot access your voice mail.

Now when you want to check your voice mail all you have to do is dial your ten digit number from any phone in the world, including the phone you are using for your Magic Jack service.  Or you can click the voice mail button on the softphone screen.  Anyway, just listen for it to answer and then dial in the star button and you will be able to hear and save or delete your voice mails.

You will also receive an email when you have a voice message.  These notifications will come to the email account you entered during your registration process.  The actual voice message will be attached to the message as a wav file, how cool is that?  Then you can save it to your computer and play it anytime you want, email it to others…probably even use it for a sound on your cell phone if it’s entertaining enough.  Send yourself a couple of test voice mails to try it out.  Check your email and make sure your voice mail notifications aren’t going in the spam folder.

Setting up your voice mail isn’t hard to do, just remember these easy steps:

  • Register and Install First
  • Dial Your 10-digit new phone number from the phone you have connected to your Magic Jack
  • Press the star button
  • Dial 0 for changing your password and setting up preferences

    Julie,

Go to my.magicjack.com and log into your account. You’ll be able to change your email address there. You can also get there from clicking the button on your softphone screen that says “My MagicJack”.

there are 4 messages that can be recorded:

    1) unavailable
    2) busy
    3) name
    4) greeting

I recorded all four — the only one that ever seems to play is #1… under what conditions will mj play 2, 3, or 4 to my callers?

When I call my own number, or hit my voicemail button, NOTHING happens.
No recorded message ever plays to give me a chance to hit star.
In my most recent attempts to call the voicemail, it rings once then hangs up. Help please?

When I get an incoming call and select “ignore” the first part of my voice mail is cut off. It seems to start in mid sentence. I tried re-recording it with a pause before I speak— but it tends to still only play a partial message. Any remedy for this?
