Using 911
If you are using a Voip (voice over internet protocol) type of phone service, you need to make sure that you set up your 911 address correctly. Most cell phones and all landlines are set up so that the 911 dispatchers can see the address you are calling from automatically. But if you are using a voip phone such as Magic Jack, Vonage, Skype or others, it is imperative that you register your address with your voip provider so that if you have an emergency, help can be sent without any delay. Please note that the 911 service will only work with voip phones located in the United States.
If you live in an area where the 911 service is not available, then this service will not work with Magic Jack or any other voip phone. Even when the service is available, it is highly recommended that you have another way of calling 911, in case of your voip service being temporarily out of order. This includes having a cell phone to use or even better, keeping your landline service for local calls and emergencies.
You need to activate your 911 service while registering your Magic Jack and remember to update your address if you move or are traveling. Also, if you have a power or internet outage, you will not be able to use a voip phone during those times. The best backup is a landline phone that does not need electricity to use.
Magic Jack validates your physical location in the United States. You can check this on the softphone screen, it is located at the bottom. You will see a color coded symbol. If it is Red, this means that your physical address cannot be verified and you need to click on the red symbol for instructions on how to fix this. If the symbol is Black, that means that you are located outside of the United States. You don’t need to do anything in this instance, it is just for your information. A Yellow symbol shows that your address cannot be immediately verified and that it may take a few days for verification. The Green symbol is the best, you’ve been verified and can use your 911 if needed.
Hopefully, you will never have a need to dial 911, but if you do, it is best to be prepared in advance. Keeping a reliable method of calling emergency services is just one of the ways of keeping yourself and your loved ones as safe as possible.

Also ich hätte echt nicht gedacht dass man die Sache auch so sehen kann. Es wundert mich wirklich selten was im Netz steht, aber dies ist schon irgendwie anders.
